IMERSÃO [Immersion]
Video/sound installation - bathtub, video projection And FOund tiles, 2015
The video installation, Imersão [Immersion], proposes an ambiguous relationship between absence and presence, life and death, past and present. It explores the physical and sensorial space seeking the viewer’s integration. Elements in the installation indicate the passage of time: an antique and deteriorated bathtub, possibly abandoned or out of use, with blemished hydraulic tiles. A video projection of a female body, wrapped in a semi-translucent fabric and immersed in water, takes place inside the bathtub. The body alternates between a calm and passive condition, embraced by the tub, and a more agitated and tormented state where it moves abruptly, as if wishing to free itself due to the struggle of trying to breathe underwater. Sounds of dripping liquid and moving water help compose this immersive space in which the observer can be introduced, if he or she chooses to walk on the tiles entering the installation.
